The committee will then select members for induction into the Sun City West Senior Softball League Hall of Fame. Guidelines for Induction into the Hall of Fame & Nomination Form Current members who are eligible for nomination (7 Years). 25 years, Silver anniversary for Sun Cities Hall of Fame The hall of fame was created to recognize members of the Sun Cities Senior Softball League members who have unselfishly given of their time and talents to the betterment of the League and their Clubs. To do this they created a HALL OF FAME. Each year a minimum of one member is recognized and inducted into the Sun Cities Senior Softball League Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Committee may choose to recognize and induct as many members as they may feel appropriate. There are 87 members to date.
Where did the 25 years start? Who started it? Why was it started? I will try to answer these questions. The hall of fame was created to honor the unselfish work of a few. The 80 – 20 rule applies here. The rule is 20 % of the members do 100 % of the work. Tonight, we will recognize a small percentage of that 20%. In 1998 was the first year for the HALL OF FAME From Don Goble the first, to Dan Braddock, one of four today. 1994 Doug Wright and Tate Douglas built the Sun Bowl softball field. Arnie Kvarnberg leveled the playing field. 1995 Doug & Tate were instrumental in building the now old club house at the Sun Bowl. 1998 Red Thomas saw the need to recognize the servanthood of so many players and the Hall of Fame was initiated. Don Goble was instrumental in helping Sun City West open the field off Grand where the now Walmart is. Del Web help finance that facility. It was an all-dirt infield and outfield. In 1984 Sun City West built Liberty field. 1999 Ken Skinner created our softball web site and served as web master for many years, Ken enlarged the home plate from 17” to 21”. I’m not sure if Ken was a pitcher some time and needed a bigger target. For many years everyone enjoyed Ken’s game summaries. Bill Bromley was responsible for the batter box mats at home plate. 2000 the Sun City West Rec Center said we could no longer comingle so Ken and his team went to the Rec Center and negotiated a reciprocating agreement with Sun City and Sun City West so they could continue to comingle. 2000-2001 there was a major growth in the softball league and a need for player evaluation’s Loran Swanson was instrumental in forming the Green Team for player evaluation. Now Rickie Toland and his team evaluate from both Sun City and Sun City West every Friday at the Sun Bowl. Ev Kouffman Started the draft when there only 6 teams and it was a good old boys club. One of the greatest accomplishments of any Hall of Fame member. Look at the priceless friendships this has caused. We now have over 30 teams playing ever week and over 500 players. 2004 Bob Renter split the club in to two leagues, mainly for safety reasons. Now there are three levels of play and a much safer playing field. At that time there was just one league, one board, one bank account. Today both Cities have their own board, bank accounts but we comingle and draft team together. Fast forward, now we have over 500 players in three leagues, newfound friendships every day and we are adding more to that growing list every green team Friday. Last year the green team added 140 plus players. This is a very incomplete list of the wonderful acts of kindness that many of you have sacrificed for the betterment of Sun Cities Softball. Thank you, to all the selfless volunteers that make it possible for us to play softball, what a wonderful gift you have shared with all of us. Disclaimer for what I just wrote.
