NL Games 01/23/2026
Dennis Horvath - Reporting

Prologue: 1. Sorry about no write-ups for Tuesday! Way too busy trying to get the Spring Session up and  running
2. A fare-thee-well! To those leaving the National League for the Central League!

Tina Anderson, Mike Dahnert, Scott Dannen, Jim Fieser, and Fred Ostermeyer.
C y’all on the ‘flip side’.

Game 1: Sun Canyon Bank - 10 vs Stella’s Wishes – 9 (One for the road – Game) Although Stella’s will walk away from the session the National League Champs they entered today's match up in a ‘final Tussle’ with Sun Canyon Bank. The Hit Count was 22/18, so Stella’s had their bats working but as usual, ‘It’s not how it’s How Many’ Stella’s stranded runners whereas SCB crossed the stripe. Stella’s Jim Slock batting 3/4 with a Triple, lead the charge followed by the newly crowed 6-rated Mike Dahnert 4/4. Larry Ramirez Tripled and Sub Phil Lund Doubled. Of Note: 6 players for Stella’s made 4 trips to the plate while the other 5 and the entire Sun Canyon Bankers (SCB) team appeared 3 times for a record AB’s of 72 for the game! Whoa! Ok so what did (SCB) do? How about 5 Doubles? Scott Dannen, Leslie Love, Steven Carr, Darryl Stachler and Tammy Higgins were the Doublers. Missing from this Ménage was 6-Rated Tina Anderson. What the Hey? SCB scored in every inning to take the win. Leslie Love and Steven Carr were 3/3. Oddly as we turn out the lights for Fall Session 2025 this SCB win pulled Stella’s from top shelf to a TIE with their team; 10 – 6 – 1, IN 2nd Place.

Game 2: Ideal Insurance & Subs – 14 vs Larry Ott Realty - 5 (The ‘What was that?’ - Game) Ideal Insurance leads the session in games lost, twice their share with 12! But with all their losses the biggest loss to the Team and to SCW Softball was the loss of one of the cagiest pitchers, Ernie Huxhold – 7 Rated, retiring of age and necessity. Ernie is 80++. Best of continued life to Ernie. A Shout-Out to another amazing player, Ross Kenney-9. His love of the game, his ‘put me in Coach’, and I MUST do better was an inspiration to me the team and SCW Softball. Ross will get his wishes as he joins Bev Burger’s, Coach Extraordinaire team for the upcoming session. Finally, a career ending for my friend Gary Krause. This day comes for us all. Door closed, door opened. A newlywed, Gary K. continues his Managing career as he takes over the Ideal Insurance team. The 4 legal subs, 2 at the last minute, made Ideal Insurance a Whirl-Wind. The hit count was 23/13 in their favor. Ideal scored in every inning, 4 runs in each of the first 3 innings. 6-Rated Sub, Jim Fieser went 3/3 with a Double and a Triple. Sub John Berg was also 3/3 with a Triple. Tom Conway and Glenn Seeley were also perfect at 3/3.McLaughlin did all he could, 2/2. Larry Ott Realty lead by one of the most amicable Managers in any league, Bob Schneeberg, did their level best, scoring 4 runs in the 3rd. The win for Ideal still left Ideal in LAST PLACE or DFL!

Game 3: RH Johnson Team - 6 vs Desert Sun Embroidery - 5 (The Nail-Biter - Game) While Stella’s was losing a nail-bitter to the Bankers another one was on the horizon. The game featured R.H. Johnson’s and D.S. Embroidery. This game started ‘COLD’. RHJT never scored until the 11th hour. 2 runs in the 5th and a full flight of 4 in the 6th. The Hit count was dead even at 17 all. What woke up RHJT? Did they suddenly discover that the title was on the line? There were no real heroics as the 4 runs, run was fueled by single bases hits…all of them! Actually, a Walk led to 3 base hits and another Walk capped with 2 more singles. Cal Goings went 3/3, the only one perfect for both teams. For RHJT Ernie Miller Doubled as did Rich McKinney. Sponsor Heather Johnson pitched solidly and added a Sac Fly. Desert Sun Embroidery, (DSE) proved their worth as Tina Anderson a Sub, Tom Smithpeters, and Jesse Benish all Doubled. No one was perfect but Anderson, with her 4 trips to the plate, was 3/4.

Epilogue: 1. A session ends; a session starts. We say adios to players that will miss this next session.
                                                                                      2. It has been a pleasure to be the National League Scribe. So as not to be ‘Piggy’. Is there anyone who wants to be my replacement?
