Canyon State – 14 Hole N One – 18
Hole N One outdistanced Canyon State 18-14 by scoring in each at bat. Despite scoring the maximum four runs in three innings State was never able to get closer than five runs until the final inning. Hole N One amassed 31 hits including four from Lee Tenold, which included a triple. Seven other Hole N One batters were able to smack three hits each. Included in that list were Bill McGruder, Jeff Silbaugh, Rick Suhaysik, Terry Zellers, Dave Baldwin, Dave Bennett and Ken Morales (3 RBIs). Canyon State had 27 hits led by the three hits each of Don Wickersham, Rod Staeb (3 RBIs), Jim Dohrmann (2B), Bob Latterell and sub Tom Finn. Fred Ostermeyer legged out a double for Canyon State.
Susi’s Home Cleaning - 12 Saini Smiles – 10
Susi’s Home Cleaning scored four in the top of the seventh to rally for a 12-10 win over Saini Smiles. Susi’s scored six over the lasty two innings while holding Saini scoreless over their last three at bats to capture the win. Susi’s was led by the three hits each of Rich Cherry, John Derylo (2B), Larry Drader, Mark Krska, and Kevin Husen. Saini Smiles was led by the four hits, two doubles, and three RBIs of Tom Albanese. Providing three hits for Saini were Rich Berndt, Jay Marty (2-3B), Rick Staeb, and Dave Siegel.
Phoenix Sports - 9 Team Peterson – 8
A seventh inning single run proved to be the difference as Phoenix Sports pulled out a close 9-8 win over Team Peterson. The decisive run was the only run plated by either team over the final three innings. Phoenix Sports was aided by the three hits each of Kevin Kelley, Craig Sorenson, John Bentley and sub Mike Currie (2B). Dave Braley had three RBIs including knocking in the go ahead run in the final frame on a double. Brian Melody also contributed a double. Paul Felice led Team Peterson with four hits followed by the three hits each of Todd Zarbok and Jim Kreidler. Phoenix Sports pitcher Tina Anderson held Peterson scoreless over those last three innings and allowed no extra base hits.
Thrive Healing – 0 Desert Rose – 10
Desert Rose pitcher Ken Rau hurled a masterpiece today as he held Thrive Healing to just six hits and no runs. Desert Rose Leadoff hitter Ron Wambach led off his team with a hit in the first and scored the only run Rose would end up needing. Tony Matthews, Mike Lavis, and Norm Wolf led Rose with three hits each. Matthews and Judy Peltekain had extra base hits with doubles. Rick Magnussen provided the only excitement for Thrive when he lashed a double in the third.
Paul Tone – 4 Az Fans and Blinds – 6
Ended the day with another close game as Az Fans and Blinds edged Paul Tone 6-4. Runs and hits were at a premium as good pitching and defense played a big part in the game. AzF&B was led by the first three hitters in their lineup as Dave Bjornlie, Ron Bedford, and Pierre Coulombe each tallied three hits. Bjornlie and Coulombe both had doubles. Ken Rau and Lee Thompson kept Paul Tone in the game with three hits. Thompson and Ken McGraw both had doubles on the scoresheet.
