CENTRAL LEAGUE GAME WRITE UPS

 Team Peterson – 5 Thrive Healing Center – 6 

With the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh and with one out a Steve Engels single scored Ralph Benjamin with the winning run as Thrive Healing Center bested Team Peterson 6-5. After surrendering four runs in the fourth to Team Peterson, thrive pitcher Mel Bentley only allowed one more run to score to help his team to the win. Engels led Thrive with three hits and three RBIs. Like his counterpart, Peterson pitcher Lee Anderson gave up a four run inning, but was touched for just two more individual runs. Team Peterson got extra base hits from Steve Elder and Mike Van Wie who tripled and doubled respectively. 


 Hole N One - 4 Susi’s Home Cleaning – 7 

First place Susi’s was involved in a close game until they opened up a lead with three in the fifth and then held on for a 7-4 win over Hole N One. Rich Cherry had a strong day for Susi’s as he put together a 4-4 day including a double. Ron Stallbaum also added a double to the scoresheet and Dan Behrs drove in three on two well-timed sacrifice fly balls. Susi’s pitcher Ross Rhodes limited Hole N One to four runs and 14 hits. Lee Tenold had Hole N One’s only extra base hit with a triple. 


 Saini Smiles - 15 Paul Tone – 12 

The bats woke up in this game as Saini Smiles outdueled Paul Tone 15-12. Both teams combined to amass 52 hits to account for the high score. Tone led by one entering the final frame but was outscored 4-0 by Saini Smiles to give Saini the win. Leading the Saini hitting attack was Rick Staeb and Mike Danhert who both recorded perfect 4-4 games. Close behind with three hits each was Rich Berndt, Jay Monty (2-2Bs), Mike Fussell (2-2Bs), Jim Linzeier and Dave Siegel. Paul Tone also had 4-4 days from Ken Rau and Wayne Haddy (first 4 hit day since the Obama Administration). Rau had a double and four RBIs while Haddy also added a double. With three hits each for Paul Tone were Bob Ross and Ken McGraw (2B). Glen Hower had Tone’s other extra base hit with a double. 


 AZ Fans & Blinds – 2 Canyon State – 12 

Trailing 2-1 as the game entered the bottom of the fourth Canyon State erupted for 11 runs in the 4-6 innings to defeat AZ F&B in a shortened ten-run rule game 12-2. Rod Staeb led Canyon State with a three hit day including two doubles. Bruce Marren also smacked a double while sub Kevin Kelley doubled and drove in three. Joe Calloway and Peggy Stallbaum led AZ F&B with three hits each. Pierre Coulombe had the lone extra base hit for AZ F&B with a double. Canyon State pitcher Bob Latterell allowed two runs to score in the third inning and then shutout the opposition for the remainder of the game. 


 Desert Rose - 12 Phoenix Sports – 11 

Another close game. Desert Rose and Phoenix Sports both scored the maximum four in the sixth inning to enter the seventh separated by the one run. Neither team was able to push across a run in the seventh as the game ended in a Desert Rose 12-11 win. Three Rose batters managed to put three hits in the scorebook. They were Ron Wambach, Stephanie Cummings (2B), and Peggy Stallbaum (2B). Sub Chris Peltekian used two doubles to drive in six runs for Desert Rose. Sub Jim Kreidler led Phoenix Sports with four hits on the day, followed by the three hits of Kevin Kelley, John Wooding and Tina Anderson. Wooding also had two doubles while john Bentler contributed one
