Phoenix Sports – 9 Home Smart – 9
Today’s opening tilt produced the first tie game of the season as Phoenix Sports and Home Smart fought to a 9-9 draw. Sports scored two in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up and both teams scored one in the extra inning. Six Sports batters put up three hits including Dave Utzinger (2B), Lloyd Styrwoll (2B), Larry Drader, Dave Hitz, Chuck McFarland and Rich Berndt. Jon Dohrmann also added a double for the Sportsters. Three hit batters for Home Smart were Bob Ross, Dave Bjornlie, Larry Lienemann, Bob Latterell and Dave Siegel. Ben Rodriguez was hot with two doubles and four RBIs and Tommy Theoharis also added a double.
Hole N One – 11 Susi’s Home Cleaning– 14
Susy’s Home Cleaning and Hole n One were separated by just one run after six in a close contest. Susy’s put uo two runs in the top of the seventh to provide the cushion in their 14-11 win. Susi’s had balance hitting up and down the lineup as they got three hits from Greg Potts, Steve Engels, Dave Peterson (2B, 3RBIs), Dave Gjerstad, and Kevin Husen. Dave Baldwin legged out a double. Ron Stallbaum was hot for Hole N One as he smacked four hits including a double and knocked in four. Dan Mellon, Max Beckner and Craig Martin each contributed three hitsand Glen Hower smacked a double.
Paul Tone – 12 Classic Car Wash – 3
Tone Pitcher Jim Linzmeier gave up three runs in the first two innings and then shutout Classic Car Wash the rest of the way. Leading the way for Tone with three hits each were Ron Wambach, John Derylo, Larry Shively and John Skubic (3B). Dave Parrish smacked a double and drove in three for Tone. Jim Kreidler was the only Car Washer who had more than two hits as he recorded three.
Thrive Healing Center – 16 Canyon State – 13
A close game throughout as Thrive Healing Center outlasted Canyon State 16-13. Hits were close also as the winners had just one more hit than the losers. Tim Barkes and Mike Lavis led Thrive with four hits each. They were followed closely by the three hits of Joe Calloway (2B), Buckley Simmons (2-2B, 4 RBIs), Mike Faunt and Glen Radke. Also smacking extra base hits for thrive was Ralph Benjamin with a double. Kevin Kelly, Mark Metevia (3 RBIs) and Scott Mcleod (2B, 3RBIs) were perfect on the day with four hits. John Wooding and Art Barr followed with three hits each. Jim Montgomery and Dan Bradstreet added doubles to the scoresheet.
Saini Smiles – 1 Team Peterson – 9
Peterson hurler Ross Rhodes held Saini Smiles to just one run and nine hits. Peterson did enough hitting to provide the run differential. They got three hits form Bob Hagen (2B) and Tom Albanese (2B, 3 RBIs). Randy Brink had the only other extra base hit for the Realtors with a double. Rhodes blanked Smiles in 5 of the six played innings and allowed no batter more than two hits.
