Team Peterson – 7 Canyon State – 9
Canyon State broke open a 7-7 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh to gain a 9-7 win over Team Peterson. Pitcher Mark Metevia (2B) not only led Canyon State with four hits but held Team Peterson to just three runs after a four run first inning. Following with three hits each in the win was Jim Montgomery, Kevin Kelly (3B), and Scott Mcleod (3B, 3 RBIs). Jerry Bianchi also plated three runners. Don Wickersham (2B) and Randy Brink were Peterson’s leading hitters with three each. Brian Melody made his two hits count as he had a home run and a triple.
Hole N One – 12 HomeSmart – 9
Five Hole N One batters smacked three hits each as they led Hole n One to a 12-9 win over HomeSmart. Three hit batters for the winners were Ron Stallbaum, Max Beckner (2-2B), Kelly Wilson, Tony Matthews (2-3B, 3 RBIs) and sub Tom Albanese. Keeping HomeSmart close with four hits each were Dave Braley and Bob Latterell (2B, 3 RBIs). They were followed by the three hits each of Jim Montgomery, Bob Ross, Wayne Haddy, and Fred Ostermeyer. Dave Bjornlie had HomeSmarts’ only other extra base hit with a double.
Classic Car Wash – 6 Saini Smiles – 7
Another close game as Saini Smiles rallied for five runs in the last two innings to edge out Classic Car Wash 7-6. Both pitchers Jesse Nelson and Marcel Mantha helped their respective teams by not allowing any opposing batter to garner more that two hits. Smiles got extra base hits from Mike Van Wie who tripled to knock in the decisive runs and a double from Kelly Schroder. For the Car Washers Terry Zellers smacked a triple. Nelson allowed only one run to score after the third inning which gave Smiles time to get back into the game.
Thrive Healing Center – 13 Susi’s Cleaaning – 10
Late inning scoring made the difference in this game also as Thrive score seven in their last two at-bats to pull out a 13-10 win over Susi’s. Sub Steph Cummings led with three hits including rounding the bases for a home run and adding five RBIs. Also with three hits for Thrive Healing was Buckley Simmons (2B), and subs Rod Staeb (2-2B), and sub Tim Freund. Also providing extra base hits for Thrive were Tom Van Meter who also had a four bagger and 3 RBIs, Mike Lavis (3B) and Trevor Cornett (2B). Susi’s was the beneficiary of three hits by Steve Engels and Bill Thuesen (2B). Greg Potts had two doubles and Lee Thompson provided another.
Phoenix Sports – 10 Paul Tone – 9
First place Phoenix Sports need to score three in the bottom of the seventh to avoid an upset by Paul Tone who led 9-7 entering the bottom of the seventh. Dave Hitz put four hits on the scoresheet to lead Sports. Following with three hits were Larry Drader (2-2B), Chuck McFarland, Rich Berndt and Jon Albee. Dave Utzinger also contributed a double. Sub Lee Thompson was hot for Tone with four hits including a double. Paul Tone also got three hits each from subs Kevin Husen and Dave Peterson. John Derylo got his birthday wish with a double and Ron Wambach also added a two-bagger.
