Canyon State – 8 Classic Car Wash – 12
Trailing by one entering the top of the seventh Classic Car Wash put up five runs to top Canyon State 12-8. Paul Felice had a big day for Classic with four hits including a triple and four RBIs. Tim Freund put three hits in the scorebook including a double. Rod Staeb legged out a triple for the winners. Jim Montgomery led State with three hits. With extra base hits for Canyon State were Scott McLeod with a triple and Dan Bradstreet with a double. John Wooding and Pat Regan both knocked in three for the Washers.
Saini Smiles – 12 Susi’s Cleaning – 11
After Susi’s Cleaning scored three in the top of the seventh to take a brief lead of 11-10, Saini Smiles responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-11 win. Pacing Saini Smiles with three hits each were Rich Cherry, Ron Camarata, Craig Brooks, and Carl O’Leary. Sub Bruce Marren had Smiles lone extra base hit with a double. Greg Potts led Susi’s with four hits including a home run and a double. He was followed by the three hits of SteveEngels, Dave Gjerstad, Brian Krewson (2B) and Kevin Husen (2B).
Paul Tone – 0 Thrive Healing – 12
Thrive pitcher Moose Mantha hurled a shutout as Thrive Healing mercy-ruled Paul Tone 12-0 in five innings. Mantha allowed only 10 hits. Thrive pounded out six extra base hits, all doubles. Buckley Simmons (2B) and Tom Van Meter (3 RBIs) each had three hits to pace Thrive. Mike Faunt, Steve Peltekian, and sub Bob Ross each had doubles while Trevor Cornett smacked two doubles.
Team Peterson – 14 Home Smart – 4
Another mercy-ruled game as Team Peterson defeated Home Smart 14-4 in six innings. Sub pitcher Mel Bentley held second-place Home Smart to just 12 hits. Don Wickersham paced Team Petersson with four hits, followed closely by the three hits each of Dan Behrs, Ron Bedford, Bill McGruder (2B, 3 RBIs), and Ken Morales (2B). Brian Melody smacked a triple for the winners. Home Smart was able to put three extra base hits in the scorebook, all doubles, by Wayne Haddy, Dave Siegel and Dave Braley.
Hole N One – 1 Phoenix Sports – 14
Oddly the final game of the day ended like the previous two with a mercy rule win for the victors, as Phoenix Sports score a 14-1 win over Hole N One. Sports pitcher Lee Anderson allowed only nine hits on the way to the win. Leading the offense for Phoenix Sports was Dave Utzinger who reached base four times. He was backed up by the three hits of Lloyd Styrwoll, Rick Staeb, and sub Steph Cummings. Larry Drader and Chuck McFarland had doubles for the winner.
